North Turramurra FC has a strong commitment to the growth of female football and accredited as a One Star Club Changer by Football Australia. We actively promote girls and women’s participation within the local community. We recognize the important role women play in developing football and acknowledge the amazing contribution of our female coaches, referees, team managers and committee members.

Female Football participation rates have continued to rise across our local association as they have within our club. Since entering our inaugural Junior Girls team back in 2018, we have grown to 14 teams with female coaches and pleasingly we now offer a range of age related formats.

OUR RAINBOW SOCKS

In 2018 our Under 9 Girls team chose the team name ‘Unicorns’ and a distinctive pair of socks worthy of such a mythical creature. Unicorns have been described as beautiful beasts that protrude a single pointed horn from their foreheads (particularly during football matches). Their legs were seen to be adorned with rainbows, so it was here the rainbow socks were born and they have now become synonymous with female football at NTFC.

GIRLS UNDER 6 & 7 HUBS

The NSFA have introduced a flexible Sunday morning format for G6 and G7 players. The program has the underlying purpose of inspiring each girl to love the game of football with friends from a young age. Players are taken through various activities to develop their confidence before breaking into small sided games.

Clubs have been split into North and South hubs. In 2022, we entered our first teams into the Sunday G6 and G7 North Hubs and we hope to evolve our participation in coming years with an increasing number of local girls registering to play football. For more info you can watch a short video HERE

  • G6 players alternate between Foxglove (Mt Colah) and Auluba (South Turramurra)

  • G7 players alternate between Montview (Hornsby Heights) and Karuah (Turramurra)

SAPPHIRES - GIRLS UNDER 8 to UNDER 11

U8 to U11 Sunday football has been rebranded as Sapphires. The aim of Sapphires is to provide a positive and engaging environment that allows players to build on a love for the game. The focus is FUN and engagement with games played on Sunday mornings at various local hub type locations. Regrading is regularly undertaken to ensure players are enjoying the game. We currently field teams in G8, G9 and G10 age groups.

We are always accommodating of school/friendship groups who wish to form a team and we often work with team parents/officials to request fixed kick off times should there be a clash with Sunday morning commitments.

YOUTH - GIRLS UNDER 12 to UNDER 18

Under 12 is where the girls start competition football under a 9 vs 9 format on a smaller sized field. From Under 14 the game is played under the regular 11 vs 11 format on a FULL sized field. We are open to girls of all skill levels!

Diamond League (or Division 1) provides a quality level of competition to skilled players by implementing minimum coaching and training standards. Diamond League operates across the following age groups: G12, G14, G16 and G18.

We are always interested in talking with friendship groups who wish to form a team and play together. We often work with team managers to request fixed kick off times should there be a clash with parallel commitments.

WOMENS 30+ and 45+ FOOTBALL

An inaugural Women’s 35+ winter season team was conceived in late 2019 through a number of local ladies and friends participating in the Northern Suburbs Summer Competition (6-a-side). It is a great format and introduction to the game for those new to football, wanting to improve their fitness or just keen for the more social aspects. We now fields 4-5 summer teams and two winter season teams who train weekly at Samuel King Oval with matches played Sundays at 1pm and 3pm. In 2024 the NSFA introduced new Women’s 30+ and Women’s 45+ competitions. Our club currently has two teams entered into the Women’s 30+ competition with aspirations to nominate for Women’s 45+ in 2025.

FEMALE COACHING

In 2022, NTFC led the association for female coach representation (33%) and we are always seeking suitably qualified, experienced or interested coaches for to guide our female teams. We use coaching partner Vision Football who provide dedicated female coaches that work with players and teams. Our coaches focus on fun, building a love for the game, confidence and skills development. We offer support to coaches who wish to further their education and obtain the relevant qualifications. We find that our female coaches provide a welcoming entry point for girls who may ‘initially’ be a little hesitant to participate.

FEMALE FOOTBALL COORDINATION

Tina Phillips is our fabulous Women’s Football Co-Ordinator. She has been coaching female teams with NTFC for several years whilst also playing competitive Women’s football.

WHAT’S BEST FOR HER

We continue to work closely with the Northern Suburbs Football Association to promote female participation by aligning to the ‘What’s Best for Her’ strategic plan. This offers an inclusive, empowering and enjoyable environment for all our female players (see video clip)

With the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup hosted in Australia/New Zealand and the success of our Matildas, it is an exciting time for female football participation!

FEMALE FOOTBALL WEEK

This is a fantastic time of year where our sport recognises and honours all the wonderful aspects of our game from playing, coaching, refereeing, volunteering and administration and the key roles females play within these areas. Our club actively participates in Female Football Week activities which are held annually and we host our own club events.

Keep an eye out for both club and association events via our socials (Facebook and Instagram).
