North Turramurra FC first fielded an all female team in 1961 and we continue to promote female football participation, which has been recognised by Football Australia earning us top level 3 Star Club accreditation.

We acknowledge the important role women play in developing football and acknowledge the amazing contribution of our female coaches, team managers, officials and club committee members.

Female Football participation rates have continued to rise across our association, as they have at our club (~40% membership in 2025). Since entering our inaugural Junior Girls team back in 2018, we have grown to 16 teams which has enabled us to offer a range of age related formats.

OUR RAINBOW SOCKS

In 2018 our Under 9 Girls team chose the team name ‘Unicorns’ and a distinctive pair of socks worthy of such a mythical creature. Unicorns have been described as beautiful beasts that protrude a single pointed horn from their foreheads (particularly during football matches). Their legs were seen to be adorned with rainbows, so it was here the rainbow socks were born and they have now become synonymous with female football at NTFC.

GIRLS UNDER 6 & 7 HUBS

The NSFA have host a Sunday morning format for our youngest G6 and G7 players. The program has an underlying purpose of inspiring each girl to love the game of football with friends. Players are taken through various activities to develop their confidence before breaking into fun small sided games.

Clubs have been split into North and South hubs. We continue to enter teams in G6 and G7 and have evolved our participation with an increasing number of local girls registering to play football. For more info you can watch a short video HERE

  • G6 and G7 hub locations can alternate between the Turramurra and Hornsby areas.

SAPPHIRES - GIRLS UNDER 8 to UNDER 11

U8 to U11 Sunday football has been rebranded as Sapphires. The aim of Sapphires is to provide a positive and engaging environment that allows players to continue to build on a love for the game. The focus remains on FUN with games played on Sunday mornings at various locations. Regrading is regularly undertaken to ensure players are enjoying the game.

We always look to accommodate school or friendship groups who wish to form a team and we often work with parents/officials to request special kick off times should there be a clash with fixed Sunday morning commitments.

JUNIOR COMP - GIRLS UNDER 12 to UNDER 18

It’s never too late to join and we are always open to girls of all skill levels!

Under 12 is where the girls start competition football with a 9 vs 9 format on a HALF sized field. From Under 13 the game is played under a regular 11 vs 11 format on a FULL sized field.

We are always interested in talking with friendship groups who wish to either change clubs or form a team with us. We work with team managers to request special kick off times should games clash with any parallel commitments.

We also provide Diamond League which a pathway available through our development level partnership KU-RING-GAI PHOENIX (jointly operated with Gordon FC). Diamond League (or Division 1) provides top level competition to skilled players with minimum coaching and training standards. Diamond League operates across the following age groups: G12, G14, G16 and G18.

PLAYER EXPERIENCES

We continue to work closely with the Northern Suburbs Football Association and Sydney FC to promote female participation. We have access to some amazing special events, player meetings and signing opportunities. We are regular invitees to Sydney FC and Northern Tigers women’s training sessions along with special game day events. Our girls are given the opportunity to walk out with the players on game day and participate in half time games at Allianz Stadium or Leichhardt Oval.

It is a very enjoyable experience for all our female players (mums and dads included!)

FEMALE COACHING

In 2022, NTFC led the association for female coach representation (33%) and we are always seeking suitably qualified, experienced or interested coaches for to guide our female teams. We use coaching partner Vision Football who provide dedicated female coaches that work with players and teams. Our coaches focus on fun, building a love for the game, confidence and skills development. We offer support to coaches who wish to further their education and obtain the relevant qualifications. We find that our female coaches provide a welcoming entry point for girls who may ‘initially’ be a little hesitant to participate.
